Case Study
V1 Product Strategy & Usability Testing
Our client, a virtual healthcare startup, was ready to build their v1 patient and provider app. They had a long list of features they knew they’d need to support, but no clear vision for how to bring them all together in a single seamless experience.
We started by engaging with internal stakeholders to understand their requirements and vision for the new app experience, and explore what they knew about the needs of their target audiences for the experience - their patients.
To round out a collective understanding of user needs, we conducted generative user research to give the client team a clear picture of potential adoption challenges and how to address them, and where the new app could provide more value to patients, beyond the basic.
With a validated understanding of patient needs, we facilitated several working sessions with cross-functional internal stakeholders (product, ops, clinical delivery, leadership) to align on our MVP feature set based on the user journey we had identified through research.
What came out of the working sessions was a MVP feature set that the cross-functional team aligned on, giving the design and engineering teams a clear vision for what to build.
Once the design team had developed a functioning set of core screens, complete with actual content and intended functionality, we planned two rounds of usability testing and supported creation of a clickable prototype to validate design decisions and gather additional insight from representative users.
Usability findings helped the design team ensure that their designs worked as intended and gave them the confidence they needed to know where and how to bring in v2 features.
Key Outcomes
Working with Common Marvel, this client was able to launch their research-informed and testing-validated v1 app on time and budget. They also gained extra clarity on the value (or lack thereof) of some additional support features they were considering.
